Trophy Catch is a citizen-science conservation rewards program for bass anglers that emphasizes live-release of largemouth bass weighing five pounds and heavier. Trophy Catch bass will be accepted year-round and require photographic documentation for verification. The submission deadline is 24 hours after the last day of the month to qualify for a current month prize and/or annual prize.
All fish entered into Trophy Catch must be caught legally, including a proper license or exemption, in Diamond Valley Lake waters using an active legal hook-and-line method.
Bass must be released alive.

To earn Trophy Catch rewards, the weight needs to be documented.

The three main ways to document your Trophy Catch:
1. Angler Weighed Catches
Submit a photo of entire fish displaying the fish from head-to-tail, with no part of the fish cut out of the photo with the weight on the scale clearly visible. You must also include Diamond Valley Lake shoreline in background. Hand scales must be held by the designated handle without interfering with or touching the chain, shaft, or the fish while weighing. When using a pan scale where a type of weighing bin (e.g., basket, tub, pan etc.) is used to hold the fish on the scale, the submitted photo must include the entire fish and the entire weighing bin clearly showing all sides and corners and the scale with the weight visible. All scales, including panscales, should be properly tared in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Supplemental photos holding or releasing the bass and images of the entire fish on a bump-board or tape-measure are encouraged to be submitted. However, the required photo is of the entire bass, including tagged bass on the scale with the weight clearly visible with the Diamond Valley Lake shoreline in the background. |

3. Marina weighed catches|
Any fish documented and weighed in at the Marina that is released safely will also qualify for submission. A Diamond Valley Lake staff must be present during this weigh in. Decisions by Water Boats Bass staff to approve or deny catches and or program participation will be final.
Photos
Anglers should submit high resolution photographs (good overall clarity), with at least one photograph of the whole fish. Your picture must include a background of Diamond Valley Lake shoreline. You may use spring or digital scale with the weight clearly visible and legible. Anglers are encouraged to submit three or four additional photographs of the fish: 1. the whole fish on a measuring board with the length clearly visible 2. close-up on scale with at least half the fish visible 3. being released safely back into the water 4. A picture of themselves or a friend with their catch. Photos and documentation will be reviewed by Water Boats Bass staff. If the fish’s weight is not clearly visible in the photo, it does not show the entire fish, or the submission is questionable in terms of the size of the fish or location/method of catch or live release, the TrophyCatch team may verify or deny the entry based on their judgment.
Catch-and-Release
Since catch-and-release of trophy fish is a goal of Water Boats Bass, anglers should become familiar with handling procedures to ensure fish are healthy upon release. Largemouth bass not released alive or kept by an angler will not be accepted into the Trophy Catch program.
